You'll also find out how they've tackled their most challenging projects, including the renovation of Simona Krainova's apartment.
Could you introduce Tempus Design?
I am wondering how best to describe Tempus Design. Tempus Design is an interior design studio, an architectural office, we have garden architects, product developers and of course an implementation department. Above all, Tempus Design is an amazing bunch of creative people who strive to make people's dreams of living come true.
We always strive to meet the needs of our clients and rely on friendly relationships. Our office is a place where professionalism, attention to detail and a huge amount of passion for what we do meet. Our main goal is a happy customer, we create custom homes for our clients and don't force anything on anyone that isn't close to their heart.
Do you focus on a particular style when it comes to design?
We focus on people and their wishes. Our team has a large number of architects and basically we are able to cover all the styles that exist in the design world. The most important thing for us is to fulfill our clients' dreams and ideas for their ideal home. It doesn't matter to us whether it's glamour, rustic or minimalism - every style is welcomed and cherished. Of course, our architects have their own favourite styles that they enjoy, which is why we carefully select the most suitable architects for each client. We want every meeting between our architects and clients to be not only professional, but also a personal affair where their ideas and personal style complement each other perfectly.
How the meeting with the client takes place. What can a client take away from the meeting?
The first meeting with a client is always a crucial moment for us, where we focus on understanding their needs, lifestyle and vision. The salesperson tries to get to know the client's personality, understand their ideas and needs and the main task of the salesperson is to analyze the style, pricing of our work, and timing of the project. Several presentations of our work are used to analyze the style, and based on all this information, we carefully select an architect who is the ideal fit for the client. The next phase involves the client meeting with the selected architect, where they can get to know each other and the architect can better understand their ideas and begin to implement them. It is important to stress that this is not just about one meeting; the process can involve many meetings, either online or in person. The goal is to achieve a result that the client is completely satisfied with.
How does the cooperation itself work?
Cooperation with us is really a personal matter between the architect and the client. Our main goal is to make sure that the client feels completely comfortable and that the whole process goes as it should. At the beginning of the collaboration, we have intensive meetings where we focus on gathering input, inspiration and visions related to their dream home. The architect then begins to design each room, which is continuously consulted with the client. This is followed by a key stage where we present the entire project and work with the client to fine tune the final details of the design. We then move into the implementation part, where we work with the clients to select samples, visit showrooms and take final measurements of the rooms to ensure a perfect result. Once the quotation is agreed, the actual implementation takes place. The implementation is already managed by our implementation department under the supervision of the architect who worked on the project. The best part of it all is that the client can go on holiday while we take care of everything necessary and implement their design in detail.
You also have many well-known personalities in your references, is working for a well-known personality different from a "regular client"?
In our work we do not make any differences between well-known personalities and our regular clients. We value every client immensely and are grateful to them because they are the reason we are able to do what we enjoy and find fulfilling. Whether the client is a celebrity or an ordinary individual, we place equal emphasis on their individual needs, desires and visions. Each project is unique to us and each client has our full attention and support throughout the entire collaboration.
Of course, the projects of famous faces attract more attention, but it must be said that 95% of our clients are not famous faces, and on the contrary, we often cannot even present their interiors.
What has been the most challenging project for you so far?
We have done many challenging projects, but the most publicly known one is probably the reconstruction of Simona Krainová's apartment. We had to completely renovate the entire large apartment in just 2 months while Simona was staying in the Dominican Republic. The timetable for this reconstruction was not in weeks or days, but in hours. Sampling and reconciliation was often done over the phone. She trusted us and left most decisions to our team, which made it much easier to meet the deadline. It was a real challenge, but one we are proud to have overcome. The result is amazing and for us, apart from the fact that this project was voted one of the top 3 renovations in the prestigious Interior of the Year 2023 competition, the biggest accolade is that Simona still calls us enthusiastically after a year of living in the apartment and is still in love with it. So many articles have been published about this apartment that it is probably one of the most famous apartments in the Czech Republic!
Where do you get inspiration for your work?
We get inspiration for our work from everywhere around us. Of course we go to many trade fairs, follow trends and current events in the design world to stay up to date, but most of all we are inspired by our everyday life and our team spirit. The moments we enjoy the most are when we get together as a big family over a glass of prosecco and share ideas and inspirations we have gathered during our travels or everyday experiences. Mutual interaction and creative exchange of ideas are key for us as we inspire and support each other in all our projects.
How would you arrange your ideal bathroom? What are the current trends?
We always focus on practicality and functionality, while at the same time loving clean lines and simplicity of design. In our designs, we try to make the most of the storage space without affecting the aesthetics of the bathroom itself. Each project is individual to us and we tailor it to the specific needs and wishes of the client.
In terms of current trends, we are seeing that many clients want to experiment more and it's no longer the case that the bathroom has to be all white or grey tiles; people are not afraid to use wallpaper, special squeegees and other non-traditional materials in their bathrooms. This trend is very exciting for us because it allows us to explore new possibilities with our clients and create unique bathrooms that reflect their personality and style.
Are interior design trends changing at a similar pace to fashion? And what can be done to counteract the obsolescence of interior design?
Interior design trends are certainly evolving, but we see that the changes are more in production technologies and capabilities than in the design itself. The design principles remain relatively stable and similar, while improving and adapting to new materials and techniques.
In terms of keeping interiors fresh and original years later, we strive to design timeless and unique solutions for each client. The key is to use quality materials and design elements that will not age and will be resistant to fashion waves. We also make sure that the design reflects the client's personality and style, which helps to ensure that they feel connected to the interior even after many years of use.
We also emphasize flexibility and modularity of design, which allows for modifications and changes to be made in the future without major interventions to the existing space. In this way, we aim to ensure that the interior remains fresh, functional and aesthetically pleasing in the long term.
What are you currently working on?
We are currently working on more than 100 projects, besides the amazing projects in the Czech Republic we have also worked on commissions in Dubai and London. Among those foreign commissions we can again mention the design and realization of the interior of a villa in the Caribbean for Simona Krainová. Projects with Simona are always amazing and fun, so we will be carefully documenting the whole process on our Instagram @tempus_design to bring you inspiration and details from this amazing journey. Follow us so you don't miss out on anything we have in store for you!
