The Ministry of Finance in Letná Street decided to renovate the main conference hall in the Art Deco style, but using 21st century technology. The main goal is to adapt the premises to the representative and technological requirements associated with the upcoming EU Presidency in the second half of next year. The winning design was provided by Tempus Design, an architectural studio from Prague.

The reconstructed main conference room of the Ministry of Finance is currently very outdated, especially in terms of technology, whether it is the lack of cooling and heating technology or the multimedia technology, including the sound system, which is already in common use today. As a result, the room no longer meets the requirements for the general standard for holding important conferences planned for the forthcoming EU Presidency. Moreover, the current technical state of the building means that frequent repairs are required, which increases the financial burden. The proposed project provides for the renovation of the IT technology facilities and the entire Ministry of Finance building, and the completion date for the entire renovation is scheduled for 30 April 2022.

The brief was clear: to create a representative conference room for the modern age. The architects from Tempus Design decided to combine modern 21st century approaches with the Art Deco style of the early 20th century. They solved this conundrum by using natural materials and traditional design elements and by "invisibly" integrating all the technologies used.

"We have placed the heating and air conditioning in the radiator covers, and remote-controlled blinds are built into the window lining. The screen goes into a cornice in the ceiling and the projector is integrated into the ceiling cassette,"

The sound system is interestingly designed. Special speakers are also hidden in the ceiling cassettes. They do not interfere with the design of the room, which is also evenly sounded from the ceiling. The entire smart system can be controlled via an app on a tablet or mobile phone. This includes all lighting, blinds, temperature, audio, video and sound mixing. The opal lights are original, but like the windows they are due for refurbishment and also bulb replacement with energy saving and smart LED filament. Under the sill plates are LED strips that illuminate and highlight the radiator covers, done in a traditional art deco design.

"Our job as architects is to create beautiful new spaces, but also to save historic buildings for future generations. But that doesn't mean we should preserve them as fossils. It is necessary to live in them, work in them and pass them on in a great condition," concludes Šárka Konášová the idea of the whole project.
